I am a full time artist living in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, I've been passionate about art all my life; from winning my first art competition at primary school until later immersed working in graphic arts. In 2008 I commenced painting full time in oil and acrylics – largely self taught. The fleeting yet timeless moment inspires me to capture the feeling, the emotion, the dream, simply and honestly into that snapshot in time – a wave breaking, child’s play, a glimpse of the view on your journey. “Capturing the essence of the moment.”
I sell my paintings from Hawkes Bay Art galleries and privately to both buyers in New Zealand and overseas. Painting Style and Influences: My inspiration comes from viewing the grand masters in the galleries of Europe in my young teens; the Rijksmuseum, the Louvre and many more. I loved the realism and depth they portrayed. In the absence of photography, I am not only enthralled by the grand masters’ ability to capture the world around them so tangibly and vividly (water reflections, the soft touch of velvet, bird flight), but also their ability to tell a story. And the story evokes emotion. My rich influence from the grand masters in conjunction with living in Hawkes Bay, and New Zealand’s own “way of life”, emerge in my style, palette and subject matter. The “kiwi” way of life – passion for nature, outdoor play, family pastimes, are captured on canvas. I like to communicate these with clarity, simplicity and honesty. Along with my palette, like azure skies, my paintings evoke the magic memories and joy of perfect clear sunny days, special times and tender moments, or that glimpse in the landscape on a fond journey, that we want to remember. Commission Work I enjoy doing personal commissions and working with clients. I'm happy to work from photos – old and new. So, find your favourite photos (e.g. your children playing on the beach, your favourite tractor, your nature photography, the list goes on) and in my hands they will come alive and be transformed into captivating scenes. Makes a great gift too! |
